🥚 Scotch Eggs – Crispy Outside, Juicy Inside!

Scotch eggs are a delicious combo of two comfort foods: boiled eggs and sausage meat. Wrapped, breaded, and fried (or baked), they’re crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

They’re great for snacks, picnics, breakfast, school lunch boxes, or even a filling meal.

🛒 Ingredients (Makes 4):

  • 4 hard or medium-boiled eggs (peeled)
  • 300–400g ground sausage meat or spiced minced meat
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic or ginger (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 egg (for coating)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup flour
  • Oil for frying (or baking)

👨🏾‍🍳 Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Eggs
Boil eggs to your liking (soft, medium, or hard). Cool and peel.

Step 2: Season the Meat
Mix sausage or minced meat with onion, pepper, garlic, and salt. Divide into 4 portions.

Step 3: Wrap the Eggs
Flatten each meat portion into a thin circle. Wrap around each boiled egg and seal tightly.

Step 4: Coat the Balls
Roll each meat-wrapped egg in flour, dip in beaten egg, then coat in breadcrumbs.

Step 5: Fry or Bake

  • To fry: Heat oil and fry until golden brown (about 5–7 minutes).
  • To bake: Brush with oil and bake at 200°C (400°F) for 25–30 minutes, turning once.

🥗 Serving Ideas:

  • Serve with ketchup, spicy pepper sauce, or mustard
  • Add to rice dishes or salad bowls
  • Slice and serve on toast or in sandwiches

💡 Marrone’s Tips:

  • Use cold boiled eggs to make wrapping easier.
  • For a crunchier finish, double-dip in egg and breadcrumbs.
  • Baked version is healthier but just as tasty!
